James G. Umen and Qingping Li bought a five-bed, five-bath home at 44 S. Spoede Road in Creve Coeur from Jack P. Owczarczak and Wendy Timm for $850,000 on Oct. 6.

The property was previously acquired in June 2007. The 4,267-square-foot house, which was built in 1969, is in Creve Coeur East. It is located in the Ladue Spoede Estates subdivision.

James Umen is an associate member at Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in its Enterprise Rent-A-Car Institute for Renewable Fuels Division. Before that, he was with Salk Institute for Biological Studies as an assistant professor of the plant molecular and cellular biology laboratory. He also worked as an instructor at Guilin Geology College in China. In addition, he was affiliated with Washington University in St. Louis as a postdoctoral fellow.

He received a biology degree from Stanford University and a doctorate in biochemistry and biophysics from the University of California-San Francisco.

Owczarczak is the human resources director and vice president at Ralcorp Holdings, a snack foods, cereals, and other food products manufacturer.

According to BlockShopper.com, there have been 105 home sales in Creve Coeur during the past 12 months, with a median sales price of $322,500.
