Washington University Associate Dean Dr. Henry Biggs and his wife, Theresa, bought a four-bedroom, two bathroom at 1 Yale Ave. in University City for $700,000 from Dr. Michael Edgerton and his wife, Mary, on Jan. 8.
The Edgertons paid $565,000 for the 4,518 square foot home in July 2002. The house was built in 1909 and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings.
Dr. Biggs has served as an Associate Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences at Washington University since 1999. He is also currently the Director of Undergraduate Research at the school.
Before joining the Washington University faculty Dr. Biggs served as the chairman of the Foreign Languages department at Houghton College in Houghton, N.Y.
Dr. Biggs has a Ph.D. and a master's in romance languages from UCLA, a master's degree in civilization from the Sorbonne in Paris and a bachelor's degree from Harvard University.
The Biggs have previously owned property at 6955 Amherst Ave. in University City.
Dr. Edgerton is the technical lead for corn ethanol and quality traits for St. Louis-based agricultural giant Monsanto . He received his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina in 1993.
The Edgertons bought a home at 431 Westgate Ave. in University City on Jan. 10 for $501,000.
