UM-St. Louis prof sells to WashU prof in Clayton

Scott Decker and his wife, Joann, sold their four-bedroom, three bath in Clayton at 8209 Kingsbury Blvd. to Matthew Silva and his wife, Ivonne, for $477,500 on April 2.

The Deckers paid $246,500 for the property in July 1992.

Gordon Weir of Coldwell Banker-Gundaker listed the 2,061 square foot home for $499,900.

Dr. Decker is the Curators Professor and Chair of the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He joined the faculty at UM-St. Louis in 1977 after earning an M.A. and Ph.D. in Criminology from Florida State University.

He also has a B.A. from DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.

Dr. Decker has written several books on the subject of gangs and youth crimes and their effect on society. He's been involved with St. Louis Mayor's Task Force on Gangs and Drugs and is currently a member of the Missouri Sentencing Committee and the Mayor's Crime Group.

Dr. Silva is an associate professor and head of the biomechanical engineering laboratory at the Washington University School of Medicine in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.

He Silva earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering from Cornell University and his doctorate in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
