Clayton 5BD nets $1.4 million for St. Louis entrepreneur

Philip Horstmann and his wife, Karen, sold their five-bedroom, four bath at 2 Southmoor Dr. in Clayton for $1.4 million to Gary and Kimberly Taylor on June 18.

The Horstmanns paid $662,000 for the 4,647 square foot home in 2001. It was built in 1925 and remodeled in 2003.

Rita Brumm of Janet McAfee real estate listed the home for $1.495 million.

Mr. Horstmann is the CEO of Ascent Corp., a company based in St. Louis. Ascent designs, deploys and manages mission critical technical facilities and building technology infrastructure for clients across North America.

He founded the company under the name Pillar Inc. in 1998, and switched the company name to Ascent in 2001.

Mr. Horstmann is also the Vice President of Horstmann Brothers Landscaping, which he founded in St. Louis with his brother Paul in 1987. His brother is the president of the company.

Prior to founding Pillar Inc., Mr. Horstmann served as a paramedic firefighter with the Creve Couer Fire Protection District for 13 years.

He attended Meramec Community College and St. Louis Community College, as well as the St. Louis Fire Academy.

The Horstmanns paid $1,495 million for a nine-bedroom, nine bath at 16 Huntleigh Woods Dr. in Huntleigh on March 5.
