Bruce S. Butterfield and his wife, Karin, bought a four-bedroom, 3.5 bath at 14610 Mallard Lake Dr. in Chesterfield for $549,000 from Jack and Patricia Deck on Sept. 5.

The Decks paid $384,900 for the home in Sept. 2001.

Fran Faupel of Coldwell Banker Gundaker was the agent for the sale. The listed price was $559,900.

Mr. Butterfield is the CEO of VirtualEd Inc., an online educational assistance program.

He has also worked for Viacom/Simon and Schuster as the president of Prentice Hall Regents, the world's largest American-owned global publishing company specializing in English language instruction for preschool through adult education.

His career also includes stints with Pearson PLC, Golden Press and Scholastic Inc., where he served as a vice president and publisher.

He received his M.B.A. from the University of Connecticut (1977) and his master's in teaching from Harvard (1972). He earned his bachelor's in English from Amherst College (1971).

Chesterfield home sales have fallen 15 percent through July 2007 vs. the same period in 2006. The median price over that time period has also slipped $11,000 from $340,000 in 2006 to $329,000 so far this year.

Median sales prices have risen steadily in Chesterfield since BlockShopper Metrics began keeping track in 1999.
