Cardinals' Rolen selling in Huntleigh

Cardinals third baseman Scott Rolen and his wife, Niki, have listed their five-bedroom, 6.5 bath at 11 Huntleigh Woods Dr. in Huntleigh for $3.299 million.

The Rolens paid $2.45 million for the home in Jan. 2003.

Mary Beth Benes of Coldwell Banker Gundaker is the listing agent for the sale.

A seven-time Gold Glove winner and considered the best hitting third-baseman of his generation, Rolen has played for the Cardinals since 2002. That year he was traded from the Philadelphia Phillies, the team with which he made his major league debut with and won the National League Rookie of the Year award with in 1997.

In his first full season with the Cards in 2003 he batted .286 with 28 home runs and 104 RBI on the way to his second consecutive start in the All-Star Game. He had a career year in 2004, placing fourth in the National League MVP voting while hitting .314 and finishing with career highs in home runs (34) and RBI (124).

The Indiana native suffered a shoulder injury in 2005, and has batted .282, hit 30 home runs and batted in 153 RBI in 254 games since.

He won his seventh Gold Glove in 2006, and hit .421 with a home run and three doubles in the World Series that year as the Cardinals beat the Detroit Tigers in five games.

ESPN.com reported on Dec. 6 that Rolen had requested to be traded from the Cardinals, with the Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers among the teams interested.

Rolen's teammate Albert Pujols spent $2 million for a five-bedroom, six bath in Wildwood on Oct. 25.

Huntleigh home sales have risen 100 percent through September 2007 vs. the same period in 2006. The median price over that time period, however, has slipped $300,000 from $1.4 million in 2006 to $1.1 million so far this year.

Median sales prices in Huntleigh dropped in 2006 after steadily climbing from 2003-05, according to BlockShopper Metrics.
