Matthew Malten and his wife, Elizabeth, bought a three-bedroom, 1.5 bath at 8700 W. Kingsbury Ave. in University City for $285,000 from Kevin and Katherine Tipton on Feb. 19.

Mrs. Tipton paid $175,000 for the home in Sept. 2002.

Mr. Tipton, who is a real estate agent for Kingbridge Realty, was the agent for the sale. The home was listed for $295,000.

Mr. Malten is the assistant vice chancellor for campus sustainability for Washington University in St. Louis. He's responsible for maintaining and enhancing the school's programs related to energy and resource conservation, waste reduction and recycling. He's held the position since July 2007.

He previously served as the sustainability coordinator at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. He also spent six years as a senior environmental specialist with the Wisconsin Energy Corporation in Milwaukee.

He earned his master's in Environmental Economics from Duke University (1998) and his bachelor's in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana ('96).

Mr. Tipton is the manager of sales and development and a real estate broker for Kingbridge Homes in St. Louis. He previously worked as a senior account executive at Anheuser-Busch.

He earned his bachelor's in Marketing from Southern Methodist University.

Home sales in University City dropped nine percent in 2007. The median sale price also dropped $19,000 last year, from $179,000 in 2006 to $160,000 in 2007.

Median home sales prices in University City have dropped steadily since 2005, according to BlockShopper Metrics.
