Donald Danforth, III, and his wife, Susannah, sold a five-bedroom, 6.5-bath home at 10 Briarcliff St. in Ladue for $1.72 million to Peter Perkins and his wife, Meredith, on July 23.
The 7,112-square-foot house was built in 1939.
Mr. Danforth is a co-founder and the president of City Academy, a private St. Louis elementary school located in the Matthews Dickey Boys and Girls Club.
Prior to founding City Academy in 1999, he was the education director for the Mathews-Dickey Boys' and Girls' Club.
He graduated from St. Louis Country Day School and has a B.A. in English writing/history from St. Lawrence University.
Mr. Danforth comes from a line of business owners in the St. Louis area. His father, Donald Danforth Jr., founded Danforth Agri-Resources and the Danforth Foundation. His great-grandfather, William H. Danforth, was a founder of the Ralston Purina Co., a food company that manufactured items such as cereals and dog food.
The Danforths bought a five-bedroom home 2015 S. Warson Road in Ladue for $3.5 million on May 2.
Home sales in Ladue have dropped 21 percent thus far in 2008. The median sale price has risen from $714,000 in 2007 to $725,000 so far this year.
