Martille R. Elias and her husband, Richard, bought a four-bedroom, three-bath home at 7163 Princeton Ave. in University City's University Park for $497,500 from Kanefield Properties, Inc., on June 2.
Kanefield Properties, Inc., paid $252,000 for the property in July 2007.
The 2,550-square-foot house was built in 1936.
Mrs. Elias is an assistant professor in the teaching and learning division at the University of Missouri College of Education in St. Louis.
Prior to joining the university, she was an adjunct professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia and at Stephens College, where she taught courses in literacy, curriculum, classroom management and instructional strategies. Earlier experiences include working as a kindergarten teacher and as an independent consultant in reading and writing for several school districts in Missouri and in Monteverde, Costa Rica.
She received a bachelor's in elementary education from Stephens College, a master's in reading education and a Ph.D. in literacy from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
There have been 464 sales in University City thus far in 2008. The median sales price is at $144,000 so far this year.
