Francis Seward was treasurer of the National Candy Co. in 1912 when he owned this house. The company produced 75 million pounds of candy annually in two plants in St. Louis and Chicago. He was president of the F.D. Seward Confectionary Co. until it consolidated with the National Candy Co. of which he became treasurer and a member of the executive committee.
