Embattled former fire chief owns this house

by BlockShopper Historian published Nov. 15, 2009

Former chief of the St. Louis Fire Department Sherman George owns this house. He was the first African-American fire chief in St. Louis history. George was demoted to deputy chief in 2007, the first disciplinary action taken in his 40 year career with the department. He then resigned. The demotion was the result of a longstanding feud with St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay.
