Raymond Tucker was Mayor of St. Louis in 1961 when he owned this house. He served as mayor from 1953 to 1965. During his first term the earnings tax was made a permanent part of the city's financial system, a $1.5 million plaza bond issue was passed and the city's water supply underwent fluoridation. Other achievements of note during Tucker's time in office include a new building code for the city, significant civil rights legislation such as the public accommodations ordinance in 1961 and fair employment legislation in 1963. Tucker became a professor of Urban Affairs at Washington University and passed away in 1970.
