Steamboat line president owned this house

by BlockShopper Historian published Dec. 28, 2009

Joseph Streckfus owned this house from 1930 to 1960. He was president and general manager of the Streckfus Steamboat Line until his retirement in 1959. The Streckfus company specialized in excursion boats. They converted a railroad ferry named the Albatross into the Admiral. By 1940 the Admiral was the world's largest (could accommodate 4,400 passengers) and first fully air-conditioned inland river steamer.
