Shepherd Mead grew up in this house. He is the author of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. How to Succeed, published in 1952, was written in his spare time before work as a vice president at Benton Bowles advertising agency in St. Louis. The best-selling book was adapted into a musical in 1961. Mead passed away in 1994.
