Humanitarian doctor Tom Dooley grew up in this house. While serving as a physician in the U.S. Navy, he became famous for his humanitarian and anti-Communist activities in South East Asia during the late 1950s until he passed away from cancer in 1961. Dooley attended St. Roch's grade school and graduated from St. Louis University High School in 1943. President John F. Kennedy cited Dooley's example when he launched the Peace Corps.
