Congressman at odds with U.S. presidents of same party owned this house

Congressman Thomas Curtis owned this house in 1967. He was a powerful politician known for his independent streak and was often at odds with fellow Republicans and Presidents of the United States Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. Curtis was also the first chairman of the Federal Election Commission. He served Congress from 1951 to 1969 and passed away in 1993.
