Dr. Harold L. Kennedy, the former chief of medicine at Bay Pines VA Medical Center in Florida, was awarded more than $10 million in damages from a lawsuit filed against Times Publishing Co., parent company of the St. Petersburg Times in St. Petersburg, Fla. Kennedy owns this home and lives in St. Louis. The lawsuit stems from three articles that were written in the Times in December 2003 regarding Kennedy's reassignment from chief of medicine to his subspecialty of cardiology. His attorneys argued that the stories damaged Kennedy personally and professionally and contained numerous defamatory statements and implications. The Times plans on appealing the decision.
