Artist, entrepreneur Engelbreit asking $1.849M in Ladue

Mary Engelbreit and her husband, Philip Delano, have listed their five-bedroom, 4.5 bath at 99 Oakleigh Lane in Ladue for $1.849 million.

Engelbreit and Delano paid $1.45 million for the home in Aug. 1999.

Kary Lockwood of Coldwell Banker Gundaker real estate is the listing agent for the 5,110 square foot home, which was built in 1925.

Engelbreit is an accomplished artist who has made her fortune through the design and distribution of her signature line of greeting cards, calendars, gift wrap and a wealth of other products bearing her artwork. The St. Louis native began her career selling greeting cards locally before founding her own company in University City in 1983. Since then, the company has grown to 12 retail stores, started its own national magazine and licensed over 6,000 products ranging from dinnerware to crafts booklets available nationwide.

Dubbed the Norman Rockwell for contemporary times by People magazine, Engelbreit has also illustrated books for publishing giant Harper Collins, and her national consumer magazine, Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion, enjoys a readership of more than one million.

Home sales in Ladue dropped 10 percent in 2007. The median sales price also dropped $3,000 last year, from $707,000 in 2006 to $704,000 in 2007.
